Sherie Marie Scott age 61 passed on to the loving arms of her mother, Joan Scott, grandmothers and grandfather, Alletta Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Trumble, and beloved aunts and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson and Diane Scott on Friday January 24, 2014 at 11:30pm. She will be sorely missed but we all know that she is surrounded by love and we will see her again someday.
She is survived by her father Lowell Scott, Uncle James Scott, sister Alletta Dickson, her sons Lawrence Gabe Schantz his long-time companion Amber Thurston and Eric Schantz, her grandson Jack Schantz, and long-time companion Mary Devine.
Sherie was a lifelong student. She attended Shawnee Mission West High School and graduated with honors from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Her degrees were in Psychology and German. She also attended every community college in Kansas City and held certificates in computer sciences. She worked for over 20 years for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City and the Office of Hearings and Appeals in Omaha, NE.
She was diagnosed with Chronic Leukemia in 2005 and fought a very brave fight to overcome that diagnosis. I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support that I have received during this trying period. Sherie was donated her body to science and it was to be sent on to KU Medical School as per her wishes but the medical center was unable to accept her donation.
As an alternative she has been cremated by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, Overland Park, KS. The Kansas City Hospice House has generously agreed to allow us to use their chapel for a memorial service on Saturday February 1, 2014 at 3p.m. Sherie’s family and I will be taking her ashes to Phantom Canyon, CO for scattering in a place that she has said she found very spiritual and comforting in times of trouble. In lieu of flowers we would appreciate it if you would consider donating to Kansas City Hospice House. The Hospice House was very kind and attentive to her needs. There will be a memorial service at KC Hospice House at 12000 Wornall, Kansas City, MO 64145 on Saturday 2/1/14 at 3pm.
