Dayle Durkin

Dayle Faris Durkin, 91, of Lawrence, KS, passed away Sat. May 15, 2010.  She was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York to Earl B. and Adeleine Faris.  Dayle graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1940 with a B.A. in communications.  After graduation she entered the U.S. Navy (WAVE) where she was stationed in Norfolk, VA as a communications officer until 1949.  She married Thomas J Durkin, Jr. in 1946 and they moved from New York to Salina, KS in 1954.  She taught English at the Kansas Wesleyan University until her retirement.  Upon retirement she volunteered at the DeSoto Elementary Schools.  She is survived by her sons: Thomas J. Durkin, III, Rush (Laura) Durkin and Scott (Ann) Durkin; her daughter Wynne (Chuck) Dillon; 6 grandchildren and 2 very special great-granddaughters.  A private family memorial is planned for a future date.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, 200 Maine, Lawrence, KS  66044.
