Adelaide Werden

Adelaide Mary Werden, born September 29, 1919, in Syracuse, N.Y. died July 21, 2010, in Kansas City, Mo. Memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64113. Survivors are daughter Beverly Wilson (Loren), granddaughter Danner Morrison (Norwood); grandson Doug Evans; great grandson Luke Morrison; sister Harriet Barber (Donald); brother Allen Noble, and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Werden; parents, Harry R. and Ruth F. Noble; sister Ann Diskin; brother Foster Noble and nephew Gary Barber. As a veteran of WWII in the Army Nurse Corps., she was stationed in New Guinea and Australia as a first lieutenant. She was a Red Cross volunteer, active in the United Methodist Church and UMW president, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the choir. She served on the Chamber of Commerce, received Woman of the Year Award, served on the Human Relations Council, Mattoon, Ill., in the League of Women Voters, Coles County, Ill., was involved in the Foreign Student Housing Program, the Mattoon Registered Nurses Club, and was on the board of directors and publicity chairman of P.A.D.S. She was also employed by the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society as area executive director until 1971.
