Alatina “Al” Tanumai

Alatina “Al” Tanumai was born on September 9, 1961, in Apia, Samoa. He is the second youngest of 14 children from his belated parents, Tunifa’i and Kitara Inifi. Al spent his younger years working while traveling between Australia and New Zealand, before meeting his lovely wife, Merina, working as a taxi driver back in Samoa.

The two had settled in the U.S., sharing 7 children and 30 beautiful years of marriage together. Before finding their forever home in Missouri they spent 8 years in sweet Hawai’i Nei.

Al was known as a family man, God-fearing servant, a chef in the kitchen, and the biggest KC Chief fan!

Not only did he serve the Chiefs kingdom, he also served & loved God‘s kingdom even more. Al served as a deacon under the Pastoral leadership of the late Nu’u and Lologo. Until being spiritual led to re-dedicate his life to God on April 21, 2024. He was baptized at the Summit Park Church, alongside his 2 daughters: Evelyn and Angel Tanumai. Al’s faith was always alive and moving. Like his faith, Al was alike in the same way. Hi willingness and big heart to serve is what he was most known for; whether it was his family, his community, and most importantly his church. One thing was for sure, his faith was what grounded and sustained him all throughout the years. His love for God is what made him the man he was until his very last. Throughout life’s many trials that have tested his conviction, especially concerning his health. He has always remained faithful to his God and the truth of His promises.

For all that were close and dearest to our Al, all knew how he never stopped working his hardest to provide for those he loved as a protective father, loving brother, uncle, and the best papa to his twin grandchildren.

His family is his whole world, next to his commitment to seeing his favorite NFL team, the Kansas City Chiefs, firsthand at the Super Bowl.

He was well loved and respected by all. His outgoing personality, one-of-a-kind humor, and his loving-caring nature to everyone he encountered will be sorely missed.

Al departed from us in the early hours on August 25, 2024, surrounded by his lovely wife and kids.

Although we will miss our dear father, we find peace in knowing he is finally resting and is no longer in pain. Our hearts are secured in the faith our father left with us, and the eternal promises of our God.

His legacy is lived through his seven children: Sinaloto Tanumai, Tony Tanumai, Taimane Tanumai, Evelyn Tanumai, Salina Tanumai, Angel Tanumai, and Genesis Tanumai. And two grandchildren; Tony Jr Tanumai and Violet Tanumai.

A Family Service was held on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at 6:00pm. On Friday the 6th, the Main Funeral Service commenced at 9:00am, with the burial to following. Services were held at The First Haitian Baptist Church located at 10035 Westport Rd, Independence, MO 64052. Until that Glorious Morning,

Rest in Jesus
