Alfred “Al” Viola of Columbia, Missouri passed away November 18, 2017. At his request, the services will be for immediate family only. His body was donated to the University of Missouri, School of Medicine.
Al was born March 21, 1933 in Canaan, Connecticut to Louise and Alfred Viola. As a youth, he was an active Boy Scout and achieved the rank of Eagle. On October 1, 1955, he married Barbara (Sue) Fenton in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
He graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 1955. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. He received a Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1958, and a second Master’s from Notre Dame in 1972.
He taught Physical Education in Troy, New York from 1958 to 1960. From 1960 until his retirement, he taught science for the East Greenbush Central School District in New York. Al and Sue moved to Columbia, Missouri in 1990 to be closer to family. He volunteered for the Boone County Historical Society and Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue, of Columbia, Missouri; daughter Robin (Mike) Kruse of Columbia, Missouri; grandson David (Jenna) Kruse of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughter Anne Kruse of Washington, D.C.; great grandson Carter Kruse of St. Louis Missouri; and sister Louise (Frank) Sears of Venice, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Viola.
