    Michelle,
You have been a wonderful friend over the last 20yrs and I have gotten to know your mother over that time. Ms. Freda was always kind and smiling when I saw her or spoke with her. Her kind gestures, encouraging words and warm smile will be missed here on this land but you ha e gained a strong angel to spread her wings over you and your family for protection. I will continue to pray for and with you during this time. Stay strong and know you are loved. Be at peace knowing she is no longer hurting and in pain.
    Love you!

I met Alfreda in Bancroft elementary school in the 6th or 7th grade. She was the first African-American student in the school, and we quickly became friends. I remember her laughter, like bursts of joy. She loved to read as much as I did, but she could hit a softball a mile, which I could not. She has been in my heart all these years and I will never forget the gift of friendship she gave to me.
