Allan Sundell

Allan Richard Sundell, 93, of Olathe, KS passed away November 25, 2023, from natural causes, peacefully, in his sleep. He requested his remains be donated to KU Medical College for Science research.

Allan (aka “A.R.” “Calhoun” and “Atom”) was born in Avoca, Iowa on October 26, 1930. An Iowa farm boy, the son of Roy and Emma (Bartschott) Sundell. After a brief time at Annapolis, and service in the Navy, he resided in Northern CA with his first wife, Joyce (Jensen, Bonebright) (deceased). They moved to Olathe 70 years ago where Allan worked for Kansas Power & Light as a bucket truck foreman until his retirement. He owned and operated Quality Tree Service with one of his three sons. He married Barbara Sundell (deceased) and they traveled the world together and enjoyed a mutual love of cats and collecting. Allan’s first love was hunting, especially with his three sons. He had many trophies, including a Grand Slam of North American Sheep. He hunted in Africa twice and made his final hunting trip at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl (Mildred) Sundell of NY and Harold (June) Sundell of CA.

Survivors include Sons Craig (Jacqueline) Sundell of Lawrence, KS; Kent (Meg) Sundell of Casper, WY; Mark Sundell of Olathe and daughter, Jill (Thomas) Ziemann of Scottsdale, AZ. “Farfar” to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Allan’s final remains will be returned to his beloved hunting grounds in Wyoming.

A private memorial service will be held in Casper, Wy next summer.
