Allen J. Brown, 74, Kansas City, Missouri passed away February 18, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Brown was born December 28, 1947 in Clay Center, Kansas. Al was the son of Donald an Eleanor Laughlin Brown. He spent his childhood in Raytown, Missouri and was a graduate of Raytown South High School, class of 1965. Al received his bachelor’s degree at Missouri State University and was a veteran of the US Air Force. Al served as Executive Director of Raytown Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) for 20 years. Under his leadership, services were expanded and the organization moved into their current facility, built and equipped by volunteers and supporters from the community.
Al is survived by by his 2 sons Sean and daughter-in-law Melanie and their children Brandon and Bryan of Surprise, Arizona and Chad, daughter-in-law Christina and their children Taylor and Emily of San Tan Valley, Arizona; a sister Sue Brown and brother-in-law, Mark Ackerman of Springfield, Missouri. He leaves behind family and many friends, including Maggie Chase, who he often shared was the person who’s care and friendship “kept me going!” He was forever grateful for the staff of the Kansas City VA Medical Center for providing him outstanding care throughout the years.

Al, you are and will always be my hero. I am heartbroken that this world is without you. I hope we all have learned from you along the way and we will make this world a better place.
Al was a dear friend, a man who gave so much and ask so little. He will be sorely missed.

Al was a force of nature and a champion for people experiencing difficulties. The impact he made in the lives of others will continue. As a friend I will miss the great card games we had over the years, his sense of humor, and his talent for assigning nicknames to people! My thoughts are with Al’s family members and friends during this time of sadness.
We were fortunate to meet Al through our dad’s (Bob Sego) involvement in REAP. Our children, Jessica and Tyler, volunteered with their grandpa and enjoyed this time even more because of their interactions with Al. Even after leaving REAP, we still gathered with Al and Maggie, which we so enjoyed and will miss.

Thinking of Al today on his birthday. He was such a good friend to our Mom Shirley, and after she died, he made a point of staying in touch with all four of her daughters. He was a great man who made a big difference on this earth, and inspired many others to do more, too. We miss you, Al!!
