Altamay Wainwright

Altamay Steen Wainwright, of Independence, MO, passed away on December 31, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by loving family.  Altamay was born on July 30,1940 in Hamburg, Illinois.  Altamay will be dearly missed by husband, Jimmy D. Wainwright, daughter, Stacy Leighty, son, Chad Wainwright, grandchildren, Haeli Leighty, Hanna Leighty, Carter Wainwright, great granddaughter Ryn Leighty-Jones, brothers, Russel Steen, and James Steen, and her beloved feral cat, Kitty Girl.  Altamay loved collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, studying Native Americans, watching wildlife, reading voraciously and spending time with family. Her life was memorialized by family at the time of death.  She has donated her body to the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, Department of Forensic Anthropology.  In lieu of flowers, please convey condolences via donation to the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, Department of Forensic Anthropology in the name of Altamay Wainwright.  The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice for their professional and compassionate care.

    So very sorry to hear about Altamay. I always enjoyed visiting with her when she was out for her walks. No words can fill the void you all are feeling, but hopefully you will find comfort in knowing she no longer is suffering. My deepest sympathy.
