Ana Maria Casas

Ana Casas, 63, of Merriam, Kansas passed away on Friday, April 26th 2019 at KU Medical Center, due to complications from Leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 5 pm, Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at Rainbow Mennonite Church, 1444 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66103. Visitation will be held at the same location beginning at 4pm.

Ana was born March, 27th, 1956 in Mexico City, where she lived most of her life before immigrating to the U.S. with her family in October of 1992. Ana was able to persevere in life in order to care for her two children, whom she called the “loves of her life.” Following a battle with breast cancer and her divorce, Ana worked tirelessly as a restaurant server for over 25 years to provide for her children and ensure they had the best education possible. Through hard work, coupled with the support from her sister, Graciela, and several family friends, Ana was able to put both of her children through college. Later in life, Ana pursued and acquired a medical interpreter certification before opting to help care for children as a school receptionist for the last two years. Ana put the same dedication into caring for her four grandchildren, which, along with her children, became her greatest source of strength and joy until the time of her passing.

Despite considering herself a devout Catholic, Ana found a church home at Rainbow Mennonite Church, which welcomed and supported her for more than 25 years – following an invitation from her son’s sixth grade teacher. Her greatest joy in life was, by far, her family, which she kept united despite distance and the complications that come from today’s busy lives. She was always happiest when celebrating holidays with family and attending her grandchildren’s events.

Ana was preceded in death by her father, Salvador Trejo, her brother, Salvador Trejo (Jr), and her niece Sandy Trejo. She is survived by her daughter Tania Wallace (husband Ryan), her son Carlos Casas (wife Beth), her grandchildren David (10), Alex (8), Sebastian (5), and Elise (4). She also leaves behind her mother Graciela Urbina, siblings, Gerardo Urbina (wife Amanda), Graciela Trejo, Gustavo Trejo (wife Norma), and her nieces and nephews, Hugo Trejo, Ivan Trejo, and Valeria Trejo.

    Tania and Family,
I thought for a long time to find the right words to express my sympathy to you all. When we lose someone as special as a mother, there just don’t seem to be the “right words.” Though I only met Ana once, she was an absolutely wonderful and lovely lady. Time will ease the pain, but, all those memories your family built with her will keep her spirit bright. May you all find peace and regain your smiles through all your memories of your mom. My love to you all.
