Barbara Anne Blake Krebs, 65, Merriam, KS, passed away September 22, 2005 in the embrace of her loving family and in the care of God. Barbara was born August 17, 1940, in Johnstown, PA to Robert F. and Elizabeth Anne (Eaton) Blake. Her mother precedes Barbara in death. Survivors include her father; her husband of nearly 23 years, Fred Krebs; her stepdaughter Kandi Krebs; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Helen Blake; brother and sister-inlaw, Mike and Mary Beth Blake, and their daughters Meg and Betsy Blake. Barbara graduated from Northwestern University (B.A., Political Science) and the University of Missouri, Kansas City (M.A., Communications). She was a broadcast/print journalist, playwright, and community activist. Barbara worked for peace and justice through such groups as The Future is Now and Rotary International. She was a cofounder of KKFI Community Radio 90.1. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1984, she wrote with Linda Herman, “When Parkinson’s Strikes Early” (Hunter House, 2001). The family is grateful to the staff at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa for their compassionate care of Barbara over the last four years. A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2005 with reception following at Colonial Church in Prairie Village, UCC, 71st & Mission Rd.
