Beatrice (Peggy) Smart, 83, died at her home in Kearney, Missouri on August, 27, 2007. Visitation will be held 2-3 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Waldo Restoration Branch 819 W. Waldo Ave, Independence, MO. The memorial service will follow at 3 PM at the church.

She was born May 5, 1924, in Independence, MO to Oscar and Beatrice Gard. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1942. She attended and graduated from the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing from 1945-1948. On June 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Paul R. Smart at Liberty Street RLDS church in Independence, MO. Peggy and Paul moved to the farm in Kearney, MO in April of 1956. Peggy began her nursing career in surgical nursing in San Diego, CA, then returned in 1949 to Independence and worked for both the Jackson County Health Department and the Clay County Health Department. In 1966, Peggy began working in the office of Dr. F. M. Waterman in Liberty, MO and worked there until her retirement in 1981. Peggy was a member of Washington Restoration Branch in Excelsior Springs, MO. Peggy?s ministry included nursing at church reunions and youth camps, playing the organ for services, and teaching classes in a number of branches and congregations.?Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Paul, her daughter and her husband, Sue and Archie Gatrost, Independence, MO; her son and his wife, Peter and Dana Smart, Kearney, MO; grandchildren, Andrew Gatrost, Ben and Laura Gatrost, Emilie Smart, Hannah Smart, and Ramona Etter; great grandchild, Grace Garrett, New Braunfels, TX. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edgar and Anna Gard, Independence, MO, and Reg and Jan Gard, Oak Grove, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Fred Bozarth, Las Vegas, NV; and sister-in-law, Rosebud Gard, Independence, MO. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Rodney, and brothers, Merle Gard and Earl Gard.
