BECKY SUE (THOMAS) CARPENTER
Becky was born November 28, 1958 in Kansas City, KS to Robert L. and Darleen (Kracht) Thomas. Becky died peacefully on Sept. 3, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House. She attended grade school at Our Saviour Lutheran. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1976. Becky worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center until she moved to Seattle, WA in 1980. There she worked at Virginia Mason Hospital. She met John Carpenter in 1984 and they married April 1, 1985. Son, Jas Carpenter was born in Seattle and the family moved to KC in 1986. Becky worked as a travel agent for 15 years, then as John’s helper at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church until she became disabled.
Becky was a “people person”. She made friends easily and was beloved by all. She was never at a loss for words. Her struggle with cancer-and especially the internal damage done by radiation-was a true testament to her faith, fortitude, grit and just plain awesomeness. She tried so very hard to win an impossible recovery. Her spirit never wavered and she most hated not being unable to attend services at Our Saviour.
Her father preceded Becky in death in 1968. Survivors include: husband, John W. Carpenter, KC, MO; son, Jas P. Carpenter, KC, MO; Mother and step-father, Darleen & Eugene Fryatt, Westwood, KS; sister, Penny (Steve) Schlie, KC, MO; sister, Tammy (Daryl) Evans, Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Dr. Roger (Rocky) L.
