Betty Hogue

Betty K. “Betsy” Hogue, 79, died on October 11, 2004 at Somerset Health Center from complications of liver cancer. Services will be 11:00 am, October 22 at the United Methodist Church in Mullinville, KS. Contributions may be made to KSU Alumni Assoc. in memory of Betty K. Hogue. Betsy was born March 3, 1925 to Orville and Mabel Carr in Leon, KS. She was a graduate of Lost Springs Kansas High School, class of 1943. She attended Kansas State College with a full scholarship from Phillips Petroleum Co. and completed her degree in industrial journalism in 1947. At K-State, Betsy was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Student Publication Board of Directors, K-State Radio Guild, Varsity Cheerleading Squad and in 1944 the Kansas State Homecoming Queen. Betsy moved to the Kansas City area to work for the Hereford Journal where she met and married H.C. “Hal” Hogue, Jr. She served as a secretary of the Kansas City Museum Board, Vice President of the Children’s Community Theater, and Shepard Deacon at Village Presbyterian Church. Betsy was a long time resident of Prairie Village, and enjoyed the last four years at Town Village Leawood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal and her daughter, Kay Hogue Allen. Survivors include her son, H.C. “Trip” Hogue, III and his wife, Diana DeVore, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Hannah Headrick and her husband Rick, Mullinville, KS; brother, Ralph Carr, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; sister, Janice Flenner, Chester, VA; and granddaughters, Katie and Samantha Allen, Lake Placid, NY and Halie and Sydney Headrick, Mullinville, KS. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mid-America Rehab Hospital, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Somerset Health Center and Odyssey Health Care fortheir compassionate care of Betsy.
