Betty Jane Maddox

Betty Jane Maddox, 85, of Columbia, passed away at home on May 31, 2018. Betty was born November 12, 1932 in Leavenworth KS, the daughter of Kenneth L. and Etta Mae Myers (Driscoll). Betty graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950.

She married James E. Poe of Glasgow on September 14, 1952, who preceded her in death on September 18, 1966. Betty married Charles (Chuck) Maddox on August 17, 1967, who also preceded her in death on March 13, 1998. Two sisters also preceded her in death: La Verna Maddox of Forrest Green and Virginia Walker of Carter Lake, Iowa.

Betty was a telephone operator in Glasgow in the early 1950s, and later worked for the public school food service in Punta Gorda, FL, where she, Jim and their two boys, Rick and Randy, lived from 1959 to 1966. Betty and the two boys moved to San Diego in 1967 after marrying Charles Maddox. There, Betty worked with Charles as a bookkeeper for his two auto parts stores, his vehicle repair business, and his gas station.

She and Charles moved back to Missouri in 1991 to retire and be near their siblings. Betty remained active however, working several part-time jobs over the years. These included working as a cook for Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at Mizzou, working many years preparing lunches at Kid’s Depot, and working for a caterer.

Betty had many travels overseas and around the country, and enjoyed the friendship of many people in the area.

She is survived by her two sons, Rick Poe of Columbia, and Randy Poe of San Diego, and her granddaughter, Lindsey M. Poe-Olarte of Los Angeles.
