Betty King, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 17, 1944, to Russell and Dorothy Pence and went home to the lord peacefully on March 16, 2026.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Dorothy Pence; her husband, Carl King; her brothers Russell and Kenny; and sisters Barbara and Grace.
Betty married the love of her life, Carl King, on February 25, 1967. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and unwavering love.
Betty was known for her kind heart and welcoming spirit. If you walked into her home, you were treated like family — whether you were related or just a friend her kids brought over. She loved fiercely, especially when it came to her children and grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her.
She enjoyed watching game shows, cheering on the Kansas City Royals, and spending time with the people she loved most. Betty was famously a picky eater, but she never passed up her favorite sweet treats and probably kept Hostess in business all by herself.
Betty is survived by her siblings Dottie, Anita, Patty, Billy, and Larry; her daughters Lori King Scharenberg (Fred Scharenberg) and Tammy King Paul (Edward Paul).
She also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Amber Ham; Ashley Armbrister (Josh Armbrister) and their daughters Sutton and Ruby; Brianna Graham (Mike Graham) and their children Josephine and Benjamin; Brian Mullins (Fallyn Mullins) and their children Sebastian and Yuna; Jordan Riffee; Chris Paul; great grandchildren Kasen, Ryder, and Anabelle; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Betty will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, and the unconditional love she gave to everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A memorial service will be held for Betty on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society in Raytown. The visitation starts at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am. Burial will be at Brooking Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. Click LIVE to watch the service at 11am.
I was blessed to spend many precious hours with my sis as she walked this journey these last weeks; we shared many memories and had many conversations of what Heaven was going to be like; she was so ready to meet her Jesus face to face; she was tired and her heart was tired; some days she didn’t understand why he was waiting so long to come for her our conversation always ended with ” the Lord has his timing and his timing is always best”; I will treasure the memories of this precious time with her
My Aunt Betty was the Sweetest and Dearest person you could ever meet. Always asked about all my family when I saw her. I love her so much and I will miss her greatly. Tell everyone I love and miss them in Heaven. I love you.
I remember Betty’s sweet sweet spirit & loving heart. She gave wonderful hugs. We met at Sterling Acres Baptist Church.
My condolences to her family in their loss.
May God grant you His peace & wonderful memories of Betty.
