Betty L. Hughes, 78 of Columbia, MO, entered into eternal rest Wednesday October 8, 2008 at University Hospital in Columbia.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday October 18, 2008 at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.  Betty was born September 8, 1930 in Lincoln, KS to the late Archie an Amanda (Feldkamp) Moss.  Betty is survived by her daughters, Leanna Garrison and her husband Doug of Columbia, MO, Debra Smith and her husband Sonny of Claremore, OK and Jamea Banfield and her husband Rick of Joplin.  Besides her children she was also blessed by eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She is also preceded in death by her husband James O. Hughes.  Betty was a Registered Nurse and former Coordinator and Nursing Instructor at Franklin Technical School for 30 years.  Her kindness and willingness to give to those in need, even at her own expense led her family and friends to love and respect her deeply.  She was strong, sensitive, and longsuffering but also with a great sense of humor.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Joplin Schools Foundation, Franklin Technical School, Certified Nurses Assistant Program, 1717 E. 15th St., Joplin, MO 64082-0128.

    I am so, so sorry for your loss. Losing your mom is a big deal … and your mom, well I know how well she was the spiritual “head cook and bottle washer” for your family throughout the years. She will be sorely missed.

    To the Hughes family: Betty was one of my LPN nursing instructors @ Franklin Tech 1980-81. She was a wonderful instructor and person. My deepest sympathy to all of you.

    Hughes Family,
    Mrs. Hughes was my very first nursing instructor at Franklin Techincal School in 1975. She was a great mentor and a very special nurse. She was able to teach us the true meaning of being a nurse. I am so sorry for your loss.

    mrs. Hughes was my nursing instructor in 77-78 high school class and she went with us on our sr. class trip she was a great teacher and fun to be with, she also taught my mother joy shepherd mom liked her too. we thought the world of her the obituary hit her personality to a tee she was everything plus that you said we all loved her. amy lawrence
