Betty Rose Wasmer

Betty Rose Wasmer, age 55, of Barnett Missouri, passed away September 11, 2014 in her home surrounded by family. She was born March 31, 1959, in Kansas City, the oldest child of O.J. and Sara Mitchell. She was united in marriage to Larry Wasmer, on May 31, 1980 and welcomed their only child, Sara, on March 16, 1982. In 1996, Betty Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer and developed a desire to experience God’s gift of beauty in nature at home and afar. Over the last 16 years she visited countless places across the United States and Canada and treasured the wonder and amazement of God’s work. Whether insignificant or substantial she had the ability to develop a passion for anything of interest. She was an avid collector of little treasures, bone and rock carvings, and everything in between, and enjoyed riding 4-wheelers around the family’s land. She became an expert Texas Hold ’em player and developed many close relationships with her fellow poker players. Many have said she was one of the most unique people they had ever met or ever would meet. She is survived by her husband, Larry Wasmer, her daughter and son-in-law Sara and Marcus Oellerich, her grandson, Jackson Oellerich, her father O.J. Mitchell, and her sister Melinda Baker. Betty Rose was preceded in death by her mother, Sara Mitchell. The family held a small memory gathering at their home in her honor on September 14, 2014.

She really was something special. I think that my favorite memories of her take place in the middle of the night, during my sophomore year in high school(school night or not) when she and Larry would keep me up all night playing Hold ‘Em. I never won much, but I still had a great time and a lot of laughs. I always think of her when I play and I’m so glad that I have those memories to cherish<3 My thoughts, love, prayers and support go out to the whole family. ILY,S.
