Beverlee Ann (Gibler) Barnes peacefully joined her husband in heaven, July 14, 2024, while in her home in Independence. Beverlee was born March 29, 1950 in Inglewood, California to Robert & Shirley Gibler. They returned to Independence, Missouri when she was 4, where Beverlee was raised & graduated from Truman High School in 1968. Then she graduated from Central Missouri State College, (UCM) 1970.
As a young adult, Beverlee had her pilot’s license, as her father was a flight instructor. She enjoyed traveling on standby with TWA on free flights in her teen & young adult years.
She met her husband, Duane, while they worked at Household Finance Corporation (HFC). Married & started a new life in Wichita, Kansas in 1973. That is where they had their daughter Rebecca (1980) and son Scott (1984). Beverlee was a manager of a loan company Barclay’s American/Financial. She paused work to stay home with her children.
After 12 years, they were transferred to Independence, Missouri. She worked for the Independence School District, then retired after 19 years working at Headstart as a Family Service Specialist.
Beverlee & Duane enjoyed traveling until his death in 2020.
Beverlee was a member of Abundant Life Church, she claimed Jesus as her savior in 1973.
Beverlee leaves behind daughter, Rebecca (Barnes) Gomez and her husband Michael Gomez, grandchildren Taylor Morrison, Mia Gomez, and Xavier Gomez, and grand dog Jax Gomez. Son, Scott Barnes, cats Drizzt and GhostFace, and brother, Ted Gibler & wife Merrie Gibler. Stepson, James Addison & wife Missy & their children Mitchel & Lily. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Robert & Shirley Gibler, her brother Gary Gibler.
Small private ceremony will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Independence on August 3 at 11:00 A.M. She will be finally laid at peace next to Duane.
I enjoyed working with Bev at Head Start; she had a great sense of humor. Praying for her family at this time.
I’ve known Bev since elementary school. She was such a good friend. After graduation we only saw each other occasionally but always remained friends. She was so sweet and kind. She will be missed!
Bev was my childhood neighborhood friend for 70 years and best friend for over 54 years. We were more sisters than friends. Our husbands worked together and we worked for the same school district. Duane and I shared the same birthday and same age. He was the kindest, sweetest guy you would ever meet and our family adored him.
Bev and I had a favorite Mexican restaurant we loved for decades on Admiral Blvd. We would go to Acapulco’s and she would order cheese enchiladas and I would order their famous pork with bean burritos. They had this amazing appetizer called a chili con queso (not a dip). If you have been there and ordered this, you know how amazing it was. We always, always ordered the same.
On my 21st birthday, Bev with her dad took me up in an airplane at the Independence airport. Me, who is terrified of heights, thought I was going to pass out when Bev did a “wing over” and a few other stunts. Little Ted at the time was with us and I grabbed him arm. He looked mortified!
That girl could make me laugh harder than anyone and make me crazy. Bev definitely walked to her drum beat. She was sweet, loving, a wealth of knowledge, the most stubborn person you would ever meet and my dear, dear friend. We had 70 years of memories. It was not enough.
I can’t believe you are gone, I miss you so much there are days I just can’t think about it. I know you are healed and I know I will see you again.
