Billy Joe Nelson

Billy Joe Nelson, of Sturgeon, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 60.

Born on December 27, 1964, in Columbia, Billy attended Hickman High School and
spent many years as a printing press operator for American Press, the Columbia Tribune, and Kelly Press. He later owned and operated a successful construction business for more than 20 years. Billy was known for his generous heart and could fix or build just about anything. He loved helping others and had a gift for making people laugh—never missing a chance to brighten someone’s day.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marian and Pearl Nelson, Everett and Bernice Voss, and Dorothy and Willy Oliver; his stepfather, Boyd Wilson; his aunt Sandy; his uncle Newman; cousins Paula, Michael, and Erin; and his first wife, Merri Thomas.

Survivors include his parents, Sharon Nelson-Wilson (Bob Nichols) of Columbia and Larry Nelson (Flo) of Centralia; a daughter, Amanda Nelson-Smith (Shaun), and a son, Tristan Nelson, both of Hallsville; his beloved grandchildren, Jillian, Kole, Jordan, Ashton, and Brooklyn; siblings Tara Hickam, Ronda Schultz, and Dale Nelson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
