Bobby Glen Bryant

Bobby Glen Bryant was born June 20, 1951, in Kansas City, MO to his parents Glen W. Bryant and Norma Lee June Bryant (Gress). Bobby was the middle child of two sisters, Carolyn Dawson and Linda Garcia. Bobby grew up in Claycomo, MO where he attended North Kansas City Schools graduating from Oak Park High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Central Missouri State University for one year and transferred to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Arts Education. At ISU he played ice hockey and later was inducted into the Alumni Hockey Hall of Fame. Bobby earned his Master’s degree in education from CMSU.

Bobby married Jo Ann Irwin on February 15, 1975. They were happily married for 48 years. Two sons were born from this union, Kyle Christopher Bryant and Chad Michael Bryant. Bobby worked for North Kansas City Schools and taught Industrial Arts at Oak Park High School for 29 years. In addition to coaching numerous little league teams for the boys, Bobby coached Oak Park girls’ basketball for 15 years (he was the first girls’ coach) and softball for 4 years. Since retiring, Bobby worked with fellow retired teachers for several years, building decks and remodeling basements. He loved woodworking and the challenge of repairing just about anything! In their retirement years, Bobby and Jo Ann loved traveling on cruises, hiking in Sedona, AZ, and lounging on many beautiful beaches. They also always had their golf clubs with them playing in many different locations around the country. Bobby was a member of the Northland Duffers Golf Association. Bobby and Jo Ann also loved attending their children and grandchildren’s many activities.

Bobby fought a year-and-a-half battle with bile duct cancer and peacefully passed away at the Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital on December 15, 2023.

Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Glen Bryant. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Bryant, his sons Kyle Bryant (Emily), Chad Bryant (Suzanne), and his five beloved grandchildren Cole Bryant (19), Lillian Bryant (16), Henry Bryant (9), (Kyle & Emily) and Ellyson Bryant (12), Jack Bryant (10) (Chad & Suzanne).

A memorial service for Bobby will be held on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at North Cross United Methodist Church (1321 NE Vivion Rd. Kansas City, MO 64118). The visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, and the memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM. A brief prayer will be said at White Chapel Cemetery (6600 NE Antioch Rd. Gladstone, Missouri 64119) following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or KU Cancer Research.

    Dennis and I are sorry for your loss. We went to Maple Middle School with Bobby, and Dennis went to Oak Park with him. He was such a nice guy.
