C. Wesley Peterson

C. Wesley Peterson of Kansas City, KS was called home to his Lord on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, while being hospitalized at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.

Wes was born in Lincoln, NE on February 26, 1947.
1 Corinthians 13:13 reads, “And now these three remain:  faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.”  Wes forever proved the meaning of this scripture:  love for his Lord, love for his church and love for his fellowmen.
He is survived by the “love of his life,” Marty Phillips; his daughter & husband, Tracy & Chuck Taylor; his son & wife, Richard & Brenda Peterson; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Phillips & Kelly Hall; five grandchildren, Alyssa & Zachariah Peterson, Kinsey & Skyler Hall and Parker Alig; three sisters & husbands, Sharon & Allan Meyer, Diannae & Vince Hernandez, Janet & Clarence Miller; many nieces, nephews and extended family as well as his “best friend,” Bear.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Coletta & Carl Peterson, and a sister, Venise Wiard.
After joining the Navy, he proudly served his country in Vietnam on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Wes attended Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS and Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.  He was committed to helping others by dedicating his time to the Kansas City, MO Rescue Mission, the prison in Leavenworth, KS, and more recently, the Gracious Promise Foundation in Kansas City, KS.
Most of his life was spent working in sales, teaching karate or outdoors golfing, canoeing, horseback riding, snow skiing, gardening or playing with his dog.
Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, September 10, 2012, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO.  Military honors will be presented.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gracious Promise Foundation, 1021 Pacific Ave., Kansas City, KS 66102, 913-342-1707, website www.graciouspromise.org or by contacting the Midwest Transplant Network at 913-262-1668/1-800-366-6791 and by taking the time to register as a tissue and organ donor when renewing driver’s license.
With Heartfelt Thanks and Appreciation – We wish to extend a very sincere thank you to family and friends who have been so supportive this last year during his many days of hospitalizations, home health care and present at the loss of our loved one. The many kind expressions of sympathy offered are greatly appreciated.  A special thank you to Pastor Brad Mann, Westside Family Church and Chaplain Mike Hruby, KCVA Medical Center for all their help and support.
God bless each and every one for being there for us.
