Calvin (Bill) Hawkins

Calvin William (Bill) Hawkins passed way Tuesday, October 3, 2007 at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Hawkins was born October 12, 1921 in Emporia, KS, the son of Joseph Earl Hawkins and Bessie Mildred Brooks. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Pasek, Jennie Swanson, and Betty Smith. Bill was married in 1949 in Washington, D.C. to Helen Louise Pruitt Cross, who died in September 2000. He is survived by his children, Gloriann Liu and husband Norman, San Luis Obispo, CA; Stephen Pruitt Hawkins and wife Jean, Liberty, MO; Abigail Louise Morris and husband Jerome, Carmel, CA; and David William Hawkins and wife Anita, Lenexa, KS. He also leaves seven grandchildren, grandsons Christopher, Troy, Gabriel and Nicholas Hawkins of Liberty; granddaughter Myra Hawkins of Lenexa; grandson James Lytton of Euless, TX; and granddaughter Leandra Lytton of Wichita. He also had two great granddaughters, Georgia Swortwood of Wichita and Lillyanna Lytton of Euless, TX. Mr. Hawkins served in the United States Navy during WWII, was a conference reporter for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., and served as an official court reporter in Carlsbad, NM and then in Liberty, MO where he retired in 1991. He was a music lover, as a pianist, a singer and an encourager of his children and grandchildren in their musical pursuits. He was a member and long-time tenor in the choir of First Presbyterian Church, Liberty, and an active officer and member of the Wm. C. Corum Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and of the Clay County Archives. The family will hold a memorial reception at the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, 138 N. main St. Liberty, MO from 2:00 to 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, October 7th.
