Carlos Isaías Reyes Merino

Carlos Isaías Reyes Merino (Chay, Charlie)
July 6, 1944 – January 22, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carlos Isaías Reyes Merino, known lovingly to all as Carlos, Chay, or Charlie, who left us on January 22, 2025, at the age of 80, in Independence, Missouri. Born on July 6, 1944, in Progreso, Piaxtla, Puebla, Mexico, Carlos came to this country with little more than his strength, courage, and an unwavering resolve. Through hard work and dedication, he built a life full of love and kindness that touched the hearts of everyone he met.

Carlos was a devoted husband to his beloved Hannah Teresa O’Regan Reyes and a proud father, Abuelo, Bis Abuelo, Padrino, and Suegro. He was a cherished Tío, Compadre, and Friend—always someone who made you feel valued, seen, and heard. He lived by the quiet principle that love is shown through actions, and his actions spoke volumes. A man of many talents, Carlos could fix anything, build anything, and always had a hand to offer when someone needed help—whether it was plumbing, electrical work, or simply offering his time and care. No one ever walked away from him without feeling the warmth of his generosity.

But it wasn’t just the work he did that defined him—it was the love he gave. His home was always a place of refuge, a space where you could find comfort, laughter, and a warm meal. His heart, forever open, was a haven for his family. Above all, his love for his family, especially his “Piecito,” was immeasurable. Even in his final days, his thoughts remained with her, embodying a selflessness that we will never forget.

Carlos showed us what it meant to love without condition, to give without expectation, and to remain strong even in the face of challenges. His quiet strength, humility, and unwavering commitment to those he loved will forever be etched in our hearts. He taught us the true meaning of family, generosity, and sacrifice.

Though he is no longer with us, the love and lessons he shared will continue to guide us each and every day. Carlos leaves behind a legacy that will live on in every life he touched. He will be deeply missed, but we are endlessly grateful for the time we had with him, and for the countless ways he shaped our lives with his love, wisdom, and example.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, February 8, 2025 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S Lee’s Summit, Rd. Independence, MO 64055.

Mr. Reyes was a very kind, patient, loving man who was dedicated to providing a great life for his family just like my own family. I respected and appreciated him. As Carmen and Elizabeth’s friends, he and Mrs. Reyes welcomed me, Jason, Tori, and other friends with open arms. His spirit lives on through his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and future generations. You were a true family man and a true gentleman, sir – and will be missed. Sleep in peace and may God rest your soul.
