Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Carolyn “Sabrina” Jones, 58, of Independence, Missouri, went home to be with Jesus on October 21, 2025, at 4:28 p.m., surrounded by her family at home—just where she wanted to be. She faced cancer with extraordinary courage and grace, and although her body grew tired, cancer did not win—she did. She is now whole and free in the presence of her Heavenly Father.
Born August 18, 1967, in Clinton, Missouri, Sabrina built a life marked by creativity, hard work, and a generous heart. She was a proud small-business owner of Brini’s Bags, as an independent MICHE bag distributor—and most recently served as a Peer Support Specialist with Compass Health, where she encouraged others with compassion and hope. She loved being part of Point of Hope Church in Blue Springs and was known for her kindness, quick smile, most beautiful blue eyes, and the way she always cared deeply for others. She had a deep love for all animals and always searched for ways to save them all.
Sabrina’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Coretha Barlow (Bruce Barlow) of Independence, Missouri; John Wiseman (Sandra Wiseman) of Warsaw, Missouri; Sister, Kathy Wiseman Johnson (Steve Johnson) of Omaha Nebraska; her sons, Levi Riley (Shannon Hughes Riley) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Zachary Jones of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; her grandson, Walker Riley, who will forever know her as “Gigi” his guardian angel; her nieces Karly Johnson of Brighton, Colorado; Lauren Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; and nephew Ben Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; and her lifelong best friend and partner Micheal Crough, of Abilene Kansas. She is also cherished by extended family including many cousins she called “sister cousins”, loving aunts, church family, and many dear friends she considered family. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Nick Smith of Warsaw Missouri, and many loved ones who now welcome and celebrate her in heaven.
We will honor Sabrina’s wishes with a private celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Sabrina requested memorials to the St. Croix Sea Turtle Project or The University of Kansas Cancer Center, Research.
“But those who trust the Lord will find new strength. They will be strong like eagles soaring upward on wings; they will walk and run without getting tired.” –Isaiah 40:31
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
My heart hurts that I didn’t get to hug Sabrina and talk about other things. I wanted to bring Atlas to cheer her in her last days, didn’t get to, but she was ready!
Everything she went through reminded me of my senior year of high school. When my sister lost a battle with non hodgkins lymphoma. Sabrina smile reminded me so much of my sisters, but most of all her toughness, regardless, how bad she hurt or how bad a day she had.She always smiled. That’s what makes me idolize her even more. I wished I had an ounce of her toughness energy, but most of all, faith and believing that everything was gonna be okay. That’s when the smile came out. We may have never seen eye to eye on certain things, but what we did agree on was all that mattered was to bring happiness to everybody else. But ourselves. I wished I was an ounce of a person that she was. She fought the good fight. But what impressed me the most as how she treated me when I was going through the worst time of my life. Everyday she asked me how I was doing. Most people didnt even ask. Love that kid and miss her.
Sabrina was the first person to greet me when I arrived at the Cedar House in Abilene. We shared the upstairs of that house, along with the struggles and joys of life on the farm. She absolutely brought life, love, and recovery to the house. She would get up early, don her fuzzy pink bathrobe, and read aloud the Bible verse of the day for us. She loved getting all dolled up for any outing, and was always on the go. I will miss her inner beauty, her determination, her joy for life. May she rest in eternal peace.
Sabrina was such an amazing friend of mine!! we spent time in a facility, and I promised her that I would stand by her side through everything and every morning her and I would talk!! She was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known, and I was there to the very end!! She was such a blessing, and she will always be known and loved by everyone that got the chance to embrace her presence!! I love you, girl
