Catherine J. Goodrich Woolsey

Catherine J. Goodrich Woolsey “Big Mama,” 77, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away peacefully with her family by her side January 31, 2019 after a brief illness.

Cathy was the youngest of 6 children born to Fred and Cliffie Goodrich born on October 12, 1941 in Effingham, Illinois.

Big Mama as she liked to be called was very kind and accepting to everyone. She considered everyone she met to be her family. Everyone saw her as a ray of sunshine. She loved to be around people and was instantly welcoming and hospitable. Big Mama worked in factories most of her life and owned a general store in Duke, Missouri for several years. She loved to read, shop at thrift stores, cook, and watch old TV shows. She was an avid wrestling fan and never missed Monday Night RAW.

She is survived by her son Fred Knight of the home, a brother Ray (Char) Goodrich of Chicago Illinois, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends she considered family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 at East Side Baptist Church, 19901 E. 78 Hwy. Independence, Missouri 64057. Visitation will be 10:00AM – 11:00AM and services will begin at 11:00AM. A dinner for family and friends will follow the service.

Flowers are welcomed by the family, but donations can also be sent to Kansas City Hospice House.

Aunt Cathy was a wonderful person, and I have fond memories of her baby-sitting for us when we were kids. She was the sweetest person, kind and gentle. I hadn’t seen her for a long while, but I never forgot her kind smile and sweet voice. I wanted to talk to her, but she was too sick to answer the phone this past month but I kept thinking about her and I just wanted to tell her I love her and to hear her voice. I’m so sad and sorry that I didn’t get the chance. She’s with my mom and dad now, and all the others we’ve lost. May she rest in peace. Also, our thoughts and prayers to cousin Fred, God be with you. LOVE from Marylou Phillip and Fred. (Daughter and son of Cathy’s brother, Herb Goodrich).

    R.I.P. BIG MOMMA
Always fed me when I was hungry and welcomed me into your home. Grease from head to toe,up for a minute or straight off the road it never mattered you always had love to share one of the very few real people I ever met(and Big”n you didn’t fall far from the tree and your mom was so proud to have you for her son. She perked right up when she heard you coming home or sharing her memories of you coming up. She has those speedy angel wings now to keep up with you )
    I love you Big momma
