Cecil Elbert Callaway

Cecil Elbert Callaway, 94, of Lawson, Missouri passed away on January 10, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, January 13, 2017 at Elmira Baptist Church, Elmira, Missouri. Visitation will be held at 1PM, January 13, 2017. Mr. Callaway was born August 26, 1922 in Arley, Missouri.
Cecil graduated from Holt High School and then farmed until he started working at Ford where he later retired from. He continued farming up into his early 80’s. He loved gardening, woodworking, planting flowers, traveling, and his dog, Big Louie. Cecil dedicated his life to serving God at Elmira Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Maggie Callaway, wife Opal Lee (Marley) Callaway, brothers; Paul, Herbert, Thomas, Wesley, and Robert, sisters; Ethel, Gladys, Hazel, Mary, and Wilma, along with many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his children; Delbert (Diane) Callaway, Dorothy (Bill) Carter, and Beverly McClure, grandchildren; Deana (Brian) Dobson, Courtney (Loren) Zirjacks, Jolene (Frank) Egelhoff, Paul (Joy) Callaway, Floyd (Carrie) McClure, and Melissa (Troy) Stephenson, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Elmira Baptist Church, the Elmira cemetery, or Excelsior Springs Hospital Hospice.

    So very sorry for your loss, but knowing he is in the arms of Jesus and not in pain brings me great comfort! Cecil was a good neighbor to Harry and myself, yes, he loved his garden and enjoyed sharing it with us, especially the zucchini and okra!
    Praying that God’s comfort will surround you all during this time

    Very fond memories and feeling connected with memories growing up with the Elmira Baptist family where he was one of the corner stones as a deacon and a wonderful part of the up bringing that I had and the pleasure of knowing.     Cecil was an instrumental person in my life. He taught me as a teen how important my relationship and walk with the Lord is. Lessons that I could return to and cherish as I grew. He walks with the Lord, right where he belongs, and I look forward to seeing him again in paradise. Praying for comfort and peace to the family. May the Lord gaurd your hearts and minds.

    We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Cecil. He was so much a part of our family when we were in Elmira and dearly loved by us all. He truly had a heart for the Lord. I am sure that him and Opal are standing side by side praising our Lord. We will be praying for the family during this time.

    Uncle Cecil is reunited with the love of his life, Aunt Opal. And I am sure they are having a grand time in the presence of our Lord. He will be missed by many! May God give all the family peace and comfort at this time.
