Charlene “Char” Correll

Charlene Correll, known to friends as “Char”, died on September 22, 2024.

Satanta, Kansas, was her home from birth to graduation from Satanta High School in 1968.  She then attended and graduated from Wichita State University with a Music Education degree.  Char spent some time as a band director after graduation, but then made the decision to work for the Kansas SRS office in Olathe, KS.  She went on to become a manager there and, after retirement, aided in the building of a major state website.  Char was admired for her leadership, creativity, professionalism, knowledge, and her sense of humor. She had a way of making work fun.  Char loved to travel and created interesting home movies set to music about the many places she visited.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Knowing Char, and wonderful stories of her and sense of humor she had through her dear friend Liz will always be a treasure! Her light, kind heart & creativity was a gift. It shined through when she & Liz created a terrific DVD for my Dad’s 80th birthday! It was truly amazing! Char will be missed❣️To all her family, you are on my heart & in my prayers.

Larry and I have so many fond memories of Char including guitar lessons! Always kind, generous with her time and talent. Bright, intelligent, and brought laughter to every conversation. Never far away in thoughts and always remembered with joy in our hearts.

I miss her so much already. Char’s house has been my family’s landing spot forever. We’ve had so many Christmas celebrations with her, with laughter, games, and conversation. Some of the hardest bouts of laughter I ever experienced were at Char’s….playing word games….and she and I would think so much alike, then get tickled when we realized we both had come up with the same answers.

She and I had lots of visits together. I know her former job and friends meant so much to her. Thank you all for being in her life.

I inherited Aunt Char through my marriage and she was such a gem. I could make reservations anytime I was passing through on road trips. Although our visits were short, I loved listening to all of her stories and getting the updates on family. Her passion for genealogy is just one of her many legacies. I have never known a family to laugh as much as the sisters did all gathered together. She is dearly missed. 💜

Thank you, Chris for letting me know, I’m so sorry. I was 2 months older than cousin Char but I remember some entertaining visits while we were growing up. That includes sitting in their kitchen with an open can of Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup and passing it around until it was all gone. Seems like funerals were our only contact after our graduations and left home. We wish sympathies to all that were blest to have known Char.

I have always enjoyed spending time with cousin Char clear back to early times in the Satanta! But, in more recent times, when we spent time together looking and laughing at our grandmother’s pictures, working on family history and visiting were so special and nothing will ever replace these memories with Char. She will be missed. Peace and comfort to the family!
