Charles Chester Church, Jr.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of my father Charles Chester Church, Jr passing away on March 28, 2020.

He was born in Port Huron, Michigan on April 19, 1929 to Eva (Ledsworth) and Charles C. Church.

He is preceded in death by Grace E. (Crocker) Church his wife of 56 years, his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by one brother Melburn Church of Michigan , two sons Steve Church and wife Kathy of Massachusetts, Jeff Church of Florida, and daughter Jeanette Lusky and husband Joel of Maine. He also survived by six grandchildren,  six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Graceland college (University) and a veteran of the Korean war serving in the United States Air Force.

He worked as a teacher but his primary calling was as a Seventy(missionary) in the Community of Christ church until his retirement.  He stayed active for many years after his retirement by first obtaining his massage  therapy license and later teaching classes in anatomy and massage therapy techniques in Florida.

His work as a missionary took him and the family to many places and in contact with many people that would enrich his and our lives both in the United States and throughout the world. These included the Netherlands twice, Wyoming, New England, Florida also Kenya. He was fluent in Dutch language, pretty good at German, and even some Italian.

He loved the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and backpacking. He also enjoyed learning different crafts. We enjoyed camping together. He was a capable cook if you didn’t mind having every pot and pan dirty.

Mostly he enjoyed sharing the gospel and meeting people.

Dad we will miss you greatly. Thank you for you love and compassion.

The family would like to thank One community hospice and the medical staff who cared for my father at the Groves.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to One community hospice or Community of Christ church.

A service date has not been determined yet due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.
