Charles (Chuck) Ivan Hartley passed away July 9, 2008 in Liberty, MO. Chuck was born on March 22, 1932 in Laurens, IA, the son of Ivan and Marie Hartley. Mr. Hartley graduated from Laurens High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
Chuck was the lead vocalist with the Frank Jonas Orchestra following High School. He was employed at the Des Moines Register & Tribune, Allstate Insurance Company, Carriers Insurance Comany and Transport Insurance Company. Chuck and his wife Connie purchased a True Value Hardware Store in Sigourney, IA in 1987. They and partner, Rob Fisher sold the store in 2005.
Chuck had many interests. He had an unwavering faith in God and enjoyed studying his collection of many bibles. He loved his music and enjoyed performing at many functions over the years. He appeared in theatrical plays both in Des Moines and Sigourney and sang at numerous weddings. Chuck was a mamber of the Masons and Shrine. He had an avid interest in politics and was very active in his party. He loved to golf, fish and travel. He also loved the Hawkeye’s and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home; 2 daughters, Nicole Hartley of Iowa City, IA and Belinda Freeman of Sheridan, WY; 1 brother, Milton Hartley of Waterloo, IA; step-brothers, Lawrence Hartley of Ft. Dodge, IA and John Hartley of Cedar Park, TX; step-sister, Mary Alice Hansen of Bishop, TX; step-daughter, Marie Baston of Des Moines, IA; step-son, Kenneth Warren of Roseville, MN; and many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Muriel Vierow.
A come-and-go memorial service is planned for August 1, 2008 at 11:00 am and personal memories and spiritual readings will be at 11:15 am at the Sigourney Golf and Country Club in Sigourney, IA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
I’m sorry that I was not able to be there for the memorial service. My condolances to the family.
