Charles Richard Golder, Jr.

Charles Richard Golder, Jr., of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on February 6, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 22, 1944, the son of Eleanor S. and Charles R. Golder, Sr. He is survived by his sister Susan Bommersbach of Fargo, North Dakota and his niece Stacey Moultrie of Portland, Oregon.

Richard was a long time resident of the Kansas City area, graduating from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1962. He attended Kansas State University before serving in the United States Navy from 1965-1968, including a tour in Vietnam. Returning to Kansas City, he graduated from the University of Missouri Kansas City with a Masters Degree in History.

His many hobbies included tennis, skiing, canoeing, Mah Jong and golf. He was also one of the top poker players in the metropolitan area for many years. KU basketball and Chiefs football held a special place in his heart.

He had a lifelong love of antique Oriental and Native American rugs, and was recognized as a regional expert on both.

Most importantly, he was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor, a generous heart… and he was a treasured friend.

Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations are suggested to Great Plains SPCA, www.greatplainsspca.org

Austin and I were classmates with Richard in high school, and I had the privilege of cleaning his house for several years in the past. He will definitely be missed. I am Jo Anne Tilghman’s sister.

My heart is broken over the loss of my dear friend Richard. I was his caretaker a few years ago When he was sick. When he got better, he asked me to stay and i continued to help him with whatever he needed. He became my friend. Richard was a wonderful person with a beautiful soul. Rest in peace my friend ?

Richard and I served in the Navy on the same ship and did yoemen (office) duty for the
Admiral of the amphibious fleet during Vietnam conflict. We enjoyed ourselves when on
liberty in many of the several ports we visited in the south pacific. What a joker.
I’m very sad to have him gone. I’ve been trying to make contact with him for a long
    time, with no avail.

I met Richiard in 1992 at the poker tables. He was the best player in the city.
We had a lot of good times.
