Cheryl Louise Attaway, age 80, peacefully passed away on October 17, 2026. To the very end, she embodied kindness, warmth, and incredible strength. She often shared that her greatest accomplishments were raising her children, being a grandmother, and marrying her husband, Charles Attaway, whom she lovingly called “Chuckie Poo”.
Cheryl was born on July 30,1946 to Betty Louise Nelson May and Raymond LeVerne May in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended primary and secondary school in Raytown before pursuing higher education at Bethany College. As life circumstances changed, Cheryl ultimately finished her schooling with a Bachelor’s in Human Relations and Business, leading her to be an Admission’s Director for DeVry University. For 35 years she helped people find work by offering assistance with resumes and cover letters, as well as teaching interviewing and networking skills. She was also an in-home daycare owner for many years.
As a very involved member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cheryl served her church community in many ways. She found great joy in doing genealogy, and spent many hours connecting family members together. Her faith was always a light to those around her, and in her last days she reminded her family that love is eternal.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Betty Louise Nelson May and Raymond LeVerne May. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Charles Attaway; her brother, Kirk May; her three children, Shanon Trivers-Wesemann, Soren Trivers, and Sara Trivers; and her seven grandchildren, Zac, Tanner, Paige, Brooke, Savanna, Cooper, and Lauren.
Perhaps her most notable quality is that Cheryl loved to help others. There was no problem that she would not try to solve for someone who needed it. Forever in our hearts, her friends and family will carry her infectious laughter and joyful spirit wherever we go. May her resilience and love for others continue to shine for years to come.
Visitation will be at 5:00 pm, Thursday, October 29th, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 300 E Crestview Dr, Odessa, MO 64076 followed by the funeral at 6:00pm.
