Clifford A. Leaton, 81, passed away July 9, 2008, at the Villages of Jackson Creek, Independence, Mo. He was born August 13, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan. He is survived by his wife, Vanita Leaton, of the home; three stepchildren, Dianne Boring and husband Terry of Belton, Mo., Clarke Guilliams and wife Betty of Plano, Texas, Amy Counts and husband Duane, of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two nieces, Katherine Hynes of New York City, N.Y., Lorraine Leaton of Ocala, Fla.; one nephew, Robert Leaton of New York City, N.Y., and seven great nieces and nephews. Cliff was employed for 27 years by the California Catering Company of Kansas City, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in WWII and in the Korean Conflict. Visitation will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St., Independence, Mo., at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July, 12, 2008, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Contributions may be made in his name to the church. Cliff will be missed by his family and many friends.
