David A. Maxey, Sr.
December 17, 1932 – March 27, 2021
David A. Maxey, Sr. 88, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away March 27, 2021. Private burial followed by family visitation and service to be held Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Abundant Life Church (Admin Building) 414 SW Persels Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 17, 1932, the son of Frank and Eunice Maxey. He was a proud Navy Veteran, having served from 1952 – 1956 on the USS Essex. One of his American heroes was Walt Disney, who famously said, “I didn’t know what I couldn’t do, so I tried everything”. David took that motto to heart, and developed a love of art, music, automobile design, Bible study/scholarship, sports (especially Lenny Dawson’s KC Chiefs), and general fixer of anything. He was employed by Vendo Corporation for many years as a Graphic Artist, before opening a free-lance graphic design business. He loved serving in music ministry at several churches through the years, as a music director (Red Bridge Baptist Church, Blue Ridge Baptist Church) and choir member/soloist (First Baptist Church of Raytown). His artistic abilities produced many beautiful oil paintings, including a three-panel composite of Disney characters.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Martin) Maxey, his parents Frank and Eunice Maxey, brother, Dale Maxey and sisters, Gaile Johnson and Monicia Clayton.
Survivors include four children: Susan (Dave) Williams, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Sheryl (John) Christensen, Ringgold, Georgia, David Maxey, Jr., Phoenix, Arizona, and Donald (Pam) Maxey, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Appreciations to the staffs at John Knox Village Memory Care 3, Village Care Center and Village Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (billygraham.org) or Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org).
Our Prayers and thoughts go with you all as you walk through these next few days, mourning and Celebrating the life and the love of your Father.

I’m sorry to learn of David’s passing. He was such a talented person. He and Evelyn were such a pleasant couple to be with at our old Westport Reunions. I had art classes with him. Now we too are at JKV. We send our sympathy –
