Dean Powell

Clayton Dean Powell, 82, passed away at his home following an extended illness on Thursday, March 31, 2016.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 4, 2016 at Broadway Christian Church, 2601 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65203.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow the service in Bethel Church Cemetery.  Dean was born June 13, 1933, in Enid OK to Clayton Powell and Dorothy (Glaser) Powell.  He graduated from Billings High School, Billings, OK and attended Phillips University in Enid, OK. He served in the Army 5th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict and married Wanda Lou (Woody) Powell in 1954. After serving his country he worked in the oil and gas industry.   He enjoyed a lengthy career in sales for Champlin Petroleum Company.  Dean relocated to Columbia in 1984 and finished his career with Farmers Cooperative Association and Boone County Oil Company before retiring in 1989. In retirement he enjoyed serving as President of the Rock Bridge Lions Club and the Cedar Lake Homes Association.  Dean’s passion included supporting the University of Missouri football and basketball teams. Mourning his loss are Wanda, his wife of 62 years; sons Duane Powell of Columbia, MO Scott (Tonya) Powell of West Des Moines, IA and Alan (Carol) Powell of Overland Park, KS seven grandchildren; David Powell, Andrew Powell, Daniel Powell, Michael Powell, Katelyn Powell, Erin (Ali) Fardshisheh, Esq., Sara Powell, MD and four great grandchildren Aiyana, Clara, Finn and Farrah; and sister Karen Odenwald.
