Donald James (DJ) Muse, 77, of Columbia, MO, passed away on February 29, 2024. He was born November 21, 1946, in Springfield, MO to John Thomas and Elsie Safronia (Lee) Muse.
DJ passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and sitting on his deck and enjoying nature. He was a proud “Papa” who enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two Brothers William (Bill) Muse and John Ray Muse, his Sister Sofronia Leola “Toots” Behrens, and a baby Sister Francis. He also was preceded in death by numerous nephews & nieces and great-nephews & nieces, and his parents.
DJ is survived by his wife of 35 years Jeanne (nee Keltner) Muse, three sons Donald James Muse II, Christopher Kyle Muse, Dustin Lee Muse and wife Sarah (nee Skaggs). Two granddaughters, Lena Michelle Muse, and Eleanor Patricia Muse, and two grandsons, Skyler Andrew Muse and Oliver Fyn Muse as well as a grandson due in June 2024.
DJ was confirmed in the Catholic Church and had a strong faith that helped him through his 14 year cancer battle.
DJ served in the US Army from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War he was fortunate to be state side, but worked as an accountant handling the soldiers discharge papers upon their return to the US. He was always proud of his service and to be an American. He retired in 2009 from the University of Missouri Hospitals & Clinics after working as a HVAC Supervisor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9, with a visitation at 11 am and service at noon at the family’s home, with Military Honors. DJ was cremated by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society of Columbia, MO.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be made to the family to cover medical expenses and any additional expenses.
