Donald Hensley

Don W. Hensley, Jr., 58, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on October 8, 2009.

Don was born in Des Moines, IA, the oldest son of Don and Gere Hensley. At the age of seventeen Don married his sweetheart and the babysitter of his younger brothers, Mary Darlene "Dar" Kline. The two moved to Dallas, Texas where Don took a job repairing tires at a Firestone store. As Don began rising to the top as a Firestone Executive, he and Dar had four children. The close knit family moved across the Midwest several times following Don’s work. Don eventually retired from Firestone and settled down in Des Moines, IA to enjoy early retirement with his wife. In 2007 Don lost his wife of almost forty years after a brief battle with cancer and decided to move to Lee’s Summit, MO to be close to his grandchildren. Don enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Don W. Hensley, Sr., and his loving wife, Mary Darlene Hensley. He is survived by his mother, Gere Hensley; brothers, Ken (Kathy) and Ron (Naomi) Hensley; sons, Don, Brian, Shane (Kiersten) Hensley: daughter, Lisa (David) Harwerth-Greene; grandchildren, Danielle, Alyssa, Jordan, and Ryan Hensley, Taylor and Alec Harwerth and Abbey and Kylor Greene. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Hospice of Johnston, Iowa. A memorial service will be held with family and friends in the spring of 2010 in Des Moines, IA.
