Doris Thurston

Doris E. Thurston, 85, passed away April 1, 2008.  She was born January 13, 1923 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Nellie and Wayne Ritze.  She served in World War II as a wave in the US Navy.  After completion of her service she returned to Kansas City, MO.  There she met and married Keith L. Thurston, Sr. on February 16, 1946.  Mrs. Thurston was a homemaker and a mother raising two children Keith L. Thurston, Jr. and Suzan A. Thurston (Hawkins).  She and her family moved to Shawnee, KS in 1961.  She resided there until 2000 when she moved to Lane, KS.  She was a Past Worthy Matron of OES Adda Chapter #467, Lenexa, KS and OES Evelena Chapter #435, Lane, KS.  She was a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile.  Tose preceding her in death were her husband of 53 years, Keith L. Thurston, Sr.; her son Keith L. Thurston, Jr,; and granddaughter Anita L. McHenry.  Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Suzan and Mark Hawkins of Lane, KS; 3 sisters; 1 brother; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews.  Private family services will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery.  The family requests no flowers be sent, but to please make donations to Navy marine Crop Relief Society.
