Doris Alice Hufferd, 81, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at the Blue Springs Care Center with loved ones at her side.
Doris was born on November 30, 1923, to Albert and Hazel (Tehan) Perry in Williston, N.D. She was raised and educated in Williston and graduated from Williston High School in 1941. Soon after graduation, she moved to the northwest and was working at Seattle Co-op, where she met her husband, Charles W. Hufferd. They were married on Dec. 18, 1950. In 1952, they made their home in Yakima, Wash., where she was employed as deputy city treasurer for the city of Yakima and had filled in as acting treasurer four times, retiring in 1981. She and her husband then moved to Camano Island, Wash. Doris enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Her husband of nearly 50 years, Charles W. Hufferd, preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2000. Also preceded her in death, besides her parents, were five siblings, Albert Perry, Frank Perry, Ramona Applegate, Charmen Ramsay and Vivian Remington.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Benedict; grandsons, Christopher J. Benedict, and Chad M. Benedict and wife, Patricia; three great-grandchildren, Timothy, Devin and Eliana; a sister, Edith Wabschall and husband, Delmer; sister-in-law, Lillie Perry; aunt, Elsie Tehan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doris was cremated, per her wishes. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ Hill Cumorah Restoration Branch, Independence, Mo.
