Fritzi (Doris Jean Phipps) Hazelrigg of Sugar Creek, MO passed away one day after her 85th birthday on December 30, 2018, at North Kansas City Hospital.
She was born December 29, 1933 in Kansas City, MO to Richard Edward Phipps and Norma Doris Koons.
She graduated from William Chrisman High School, Independence, MO in 1951. She married Marion Lee Hazelrigg on December 14th, 1951 in Jackson County, MO.
She worked and retired from the Kansas City, MO School District. She also worked for Garry Gribbles Running Sports, and Log Cabin Antiques in Lone Jack, MO.
Fritzi was an avid runner and ran road races for 45 years—10Ks, marathons, long distance relay teams running races across the United States and even the London marathon. She also worked consistently in the Kansas City area planning, promoting and providing support to the running community.
She also loved antiquing and continued to work at Log Cabin Antiques until recently. She loved music and the theater and often was out with friends eating dinner and going to shows. She collected pigs and left about 2,000 pigs in her home.
Mostly, she loved her family and loved being part of all her children’s and grandchildren’s and great and great-great grandchildren’s lives.
Her survivors include:
Her children – Michael (Joyce) Hazelrigg, Rebecca (Larry) Austin, Jeffrey (Joi) Hazelrigg and James (LeeAndrea) Hazelrigg
Two sisters – Joyce (Dave) Roberts and Anne Gifford Jenkins
A sister-in-law – Connie (Edward) Shires
Grandchildren – Angela Hazelrigg, Joshua (Antonette) Dupree, Danielle (Jason) Crawford, Rocky (Tracy) Thompson, Jason (Diane) Wiggins, Jennifer Wiggins, Daniel (Erica) Hazelrigg, Andrew (Kristen) Hazelrigg
And many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Phipps, and her husband, Marion, in 1982.
A celebration of Fritzi’s life will be Saturday, January 26th, 2019, from 3pm-8pm at the Elk’s Lodge in Blue Springs, MO at 100 NE Brizendine Road, 64014. Come when you can and help us celebrate by sharing your memories of Fritzi and giving a pig a home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Great Plains SPCA.
She will be missed by many.
Sending Condolences to the family of Fritz Hazelrigg. Fritz and I watched many ball games together as each of us had sons who played on the same team. I am sure she will be missed by many family members and friends.
