Dorothy Carle

Dorothy T. Carle, 85, Blue Springs, MO died at home on April 28, 2008. Services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 9349 E. 65th St, Raytown, MO 64133. Friends may also call at the church following the service at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church or the Western Missouri/Greater KC Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. Cremation with private burial. The daughter of Samuel Everett and Catherine Mary (Anderson) Twomey, Dorothy was born June 18, 1922 on their farm near Ironton, MO. She grew up on that farm and graduated from Arcadia Valley High School as the class valedictorian. After attending Southeast Missouri State Teachers’ College in Cape Girardeau, MO, she moved to Detroit, MI where she was employed as a weather observer by the Weather Bureau. From there, she fulfilled her childhood dream of living in Alaska by transferring with the Weather Bureau to Juneau and then to Anchorage, Alaska. There she met Harry C. Carle, Head Electronics Technician for the Weather Bureau’s Alaska Region; they were married on December 23, 1949. Harry Carle lost his life in a work- related airplane crash in 1960. Dot was a long-time resident of Raytown, MO and is survived by her three children: Kathleen Wittfeld of Kansas City, Patricia Carle of Blue Springs, MO, and William Carle and wife Deborah of Blue Springs. Dot was a loving grandmother to Andrew Carle of Berkeley, CA and Caitlin Carle of Blue Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, and her grandson Benjamin. Dot is also survived by her sister Lorene Buford and husband Jim of Kansas City, sister-in-law Patricia Holloway of Vancouver, WA, two nieces and three nephews.
