Dorothy Meeker

Dorothy E. Meeker, 94, died October 20, 2008, at John Knox Village Lee’s Summit, Mo. Dorothy was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Kansas City, Mo., to James Orlando and Gladys Hosman Lawrence. She was married to Richard Edward Meeker in Raytown, Mo., on Feb. 6, 1935. Her husband died Jan. 23, 1983. They had a mechanical contracting business (R.E. Meeker Co.) in the Kansas City area for over 20 years. They retired to Holiday Island, AR in 1973 moving from Lake Quivira, Kansas City, Kan., where they had lived for many years. They became quite active in this new community where they founded a volunteer fire department. She moved to John Knox Village in September 1997. Survivors are one son, James Richard Meeker, his wife, Catherine and their son, Jonathan James, all of Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Helene Winifred Hall of John Knox Village; and three nephews, Ronald, Steven and Gerald Hall. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church.
