Douglas Bernhard Schmidt, 64 of Overland Park, passed away on August 25, 2022, at home in Overland Park of natural causes. Doug was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 12, 1958. He was a member of the Class of 1976 of Shawnee Mission West.
Doug was a bright, quick-witted man who rejected a traditional lifestyle. His adventures took him to many places and included fortunes as well as misfortunes, neither of which changed who he was in his heart. Doug loved the outdoors and especially loved being on and near water. He took beach vacations with friends and fishing outings with his brother. Doug was a devoted NASCAR fan and more than anything else, a loving brother to his siblings, son to his parents, uncle to his niece and nephew and a friend to many.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Mimi Schmidt, grandparents Milton and Hazel Beat and Bernie and Gladys Schmidt, as well as his brother-in-law David Blaeser.
Survivors include his brother Dwight Schmidt (Overland Park), sister Sandi Blaeser (Eagan, MN), niece Dr. Anna Blaeser (Philadelphia, PA), nephew Jack Blaeser (St. Paul, MN) and aunt Beverly Archambeau (Maumee, OH).
