Douglas Panknin, 52, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away June 28 at his home. Douglas was born Sept. 17, 1955, in Kansas City to Jerry and JoAnne Panknin. He attended Southwest High School, Wentworth Military Academy, and UMKC before joining the Army in 1972. After the military he followed in the family tradition working as a general contractor. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law. Survivors include his wife, Lynne; daughter, Samantha; brother, Steve and wife Jane Panknin; sister, Debra and husband Butch Holcomb; nieces and nephews, Merritt and husband Kevin Engel, Bob and wife Lorin Panknin, Jerry and Bo Panknin, Nick and wife Khadiga Holcomb, John Panknin; mother-in-law, Jackie Sanders; brother-in-law, Bob Sanders; and sister-in-law, Debbie Kramer. Survivors also include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by all. A private family ceremony will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family suggests that Douglas be remembered by a donation to the charity of your choice.
