Dr. Donald Douslin

Dr. Donald R. Douslin, 91, of Columbia, died June 6, 2008 at the Bluffs.
No services are planned.
Donald was born on December 7, 1916 in Paynesville, Mich. and was married for more than 50 years to his beloved wife, Esther, who preceded him in death.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University with honors, his Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa and his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He was the Project Coordinator in charge of thermodynamics research at the Bartlesville, Okla-homa Petroleum Research Center of the Bureau of Mines, Department of the Interior for many years.
 Among his awards were Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Awards from the Department of the Interior.
As an author and co-author, he wrote over 40 scientific publications dealing with the thermodynamics of petroleum; numerous patents, including the inclined-piston deadweight pressure gauge and an acoustical interferometer to measure the speed of sound in compressed gases.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Xi.
He is survived by his daughters Patricia Douslin of Columbia and Donna Wagner of Milford, Mich., his sister, Gladys Erdmann of Clermont, Fla., grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Memorials are suggested to the General Scholarship Fund, University of Missouri School of Nursing, S-219 School of Nursing, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri 65211.
