Dr. Hal Hayes Williams

Dr. Hal Hayes Williams, 83, of Columbia, formerly of Moberly, passed away in his home on June 25, 2023, following a brief illness.

Hal was born September 21, 1939, to William and Mary Hayes Williams in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in education, then enlisted in the US Army in 1963 where he trained as a Medical Corpsman. He served on active duty as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War.
In 1966, Hal transferred to the US Army Reserves Control Group-Reinforcement in St. Louis, Missouri, continuing his service until 1969. Hal was awarded the Parachute Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.

According to Hal and friends, Hal was a retired chiropractor, previously residing in Moberly, Missouri, before moving to Columbia. His interest in holistic medicine and natural healing led to a passion for organic gardening, surrounding his home with lovely flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The “watchdog of the neighborhood,” Hal loved to converse with anyone on anything from historical events to his latest projects.

Hal married Lillie Dowdell in 2017. She preceded him in death, January 16, 2023. Hal was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He leaves no survivors.

Services honoring Dr. Hal Williams will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Missouri, with Military Honors, Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Committal prayer and burial will follow.
