Duane “Scotty” Scott

Duane J. Scott, 73, Shawnee, Kan., passed away February 16, 2010, at the Kansas City Hospice House. Scotty was born December 7, 1936, in Crookston, Minn. He graduated from high school in Fargo, N.D., in 1954 at the age of 17, and the following day, joined the Navy Seabees, serving on the island of Guam and at Subic Bay in the Philippines. Upon his discharge from active duty, he was employed by Western Paper Company and attended North Dakota Business College to study business administration. He was employed for 41 years by Western Paper, which later became Xpedex, a division of International Paper Company. Expedex is a supplier of printing papers, printing equipment and supplies. Scotty retired from Xpedex the last day of 1998. He then became a part- time school bus driver for the Shawnee Mission School District and did this for 10 years. He was also employed by Kincaid Coach Lines, part-time during the school year, and drove an over-the-road coach full-time during the summer. Survivors include his wife, Doris, of 50-plus years; daughter Kelly; son James; two grandsons, Eric and Jordan Long; two brothers, Don of Fargo, N.D., and Ken of Rohnert Park, Calif.
