Duke Springs

Duke Springs, 58, beloved father and friend, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 11, at Research Hospital Medical Center.

Duke was preceded in death by his Mother, Esther; Father, Ralph; and Grandson Christian. They were all waiting to welcome him to his eternal home. His survivors include son, Skylar Springs (Missouri); daughters Kelsey Springs (Kansas); Haylie Springs (Missouri); and Rebecca Springs (Missouri); sister Jill; brothers Sterling; Chip; nephews and grandchildren Reina, Junior, Hunter, Jordan, Alayliana and Kyzer.

Duke was born January 2, 1968. He grew up in the care of a praying, Bible-reading mother and a hard working father. The only thing he loved as much as his kids was ice cream. Ice cream was the answer to everything. Plus, you never needed a good reason to have a scoop and the serving was never too much.

The friends Duke embraced during life became family-by-choice. Each person held a special place in his heart. They called him all kinds of names, including brother, uncle, partner and fishing buddy. They relied on him and he, in turn, depended on them.

To the kids, Dad was FISHERMAN #1!! Whenever the opportunity came up, they’d drop a line anywhere there might be fish to catch. No matter the day, time or place, there were rods, bait and a tackle box. We believe that his grandson, Christian was waiting for him at Heaven’s Door to show his grandpa some really good spots. Jesus knows a bunch about fishing.

Duke worked with his hands and his heart. He was kept busy by working on vehicles, his and everyone else’s. Rebuilding homes and bringing beauty to everything he touched, you could say he was an artist. may not have had much, but if you needed it, it was yours. Even if you asked for something and it was his “last”, he’d never tell you and give with no hesitation and a smile. That smile will be missed.

“Blessed is the man who walks in righteousness, for his works follow him. And I saw a faithful father, a man of honor, who crossed the gates of glory, and the Lord said, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Master.”

A small, private family service will be held at the Family Chapel at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society early next week. One specific request from Duke was to have his ashes spread at his favorite fishing hole. So that’s where the family will have a Celebration of Life at a date to be determined. Everyone will be welcome there.

Any memorial contributions in Duke’s honor can be made to a charity of your choice or to the family go-fund me account to help with expenses.
