Eileen Floyd

Eileen Floyd, 88 years old, born Nora Eileen Byers July, 1921 in Colchester, England, slipped away from us on Friday evening, March 5, 2010 at the age of 88. Eileen’s desire to be a fashion designer was curtailed because she was drafted into the English Army during WWII whereupon she met and married her husband, Paul Floyd, a young and handsome 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp. With young son in hand, she sailed to the U.S. on the Queen Mary in March of 1946 and took up residence in America as a young “war bride” but never gave up her English heritage. Frequently referred to as “that charming British lady”, Eileen was an avid reader and lover of words being an absolute cross-word puzzle maven. Her love of literature extended to poetry in which she shared reflections on her life and loves. Eileen was an excellent seamstress, retaining her eye for fashion, a skill learned from her father who was a tailor by trade. Eileen raised her family in California and then moved with Paul to Broomfield, Colorado in the early 70’s and, long after his death, to the Kansas City area to be close to her daughter. Eileen is survived by her daughter Pauline Freeman and son David Floyd. She had three grandchildren who will miss her, Gabe Freeman, Samuel Floyd and Jennifer Floyd. Memorial Services will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Heartland, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown Missouri

I was looking up old friends and found this obit. I worked with Eileen in Boulder for several years. She was such a sweet lady. Her birthday was 7/14 and mine 7/16, so we use to stay in touch on birthday and Christmas. I have thought of her so often over the years. I always assumed she moved to KC to be with her daughter. I believe we met at Paul’s funeral. So sorry to hear Eileen passed. She was one great lady. We always laughed about visiting the Queen when going to England.
