Elizabeth “Betty” McDowell

Elizabeth "Betty" McDowell, 81, Blue Springs, MO, passed away March 13, 2011. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011 at Maywood Baptist Church, Independence, MO. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maywood Baptist Church or the Arthritis Foundation . Betty was born October 20, 1929 in Vernon County, MO. She graduated from Calhoun High School where she was Valedictorian and a cheerleader. Betty was a member of Beaumont & later Maywood Baptist Churches; she was an active member and Sunday school teacher, involved with the Women’s Missionary Union, as well as many ladies groups. For many years, she worked in the printing industry. Her last job was as a proofreader for The Kansas City Star. She will be remembered for her love of entertaining family and friends, sewing, cooking, baking, and her immaculate household. Betty was preceded in death by sister, Shirley French; and brother, James East. Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Jack McDowell; sons & daughters- in-law, Ken & Peggy McDowell, Marble Falls, AR, Dave McDowell, Blue Springs, MO; daughter & son-in-law, Lisa & Tod Umstattd, Blue Springs, MO; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. Betty’s enduring faith and positive attitude will always be an example to her family and friends.
